Done Deal: Curtis Granderson Headed to Yankees

A deal that had been a hot rumor for 48 hours appears to be complete. According to reports, the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers have agreed on the first blockbuster trade of the winter. Headed to New York will be centerfielder Curtis Granderson. Headed to Arizona is starter Edwin Jackson and starter/reliever Ian Kennedy. Headed to Detroit are pitchers Max Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth and Phil Coke, as well as minor league outfielder Austin Jackson. Granderson will replace Johnny Damon near the top of the Yankee lineup, and bring solid defense to New ...

Detroit Tigers Shedding the Wrong Key Players

It appears that Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson are on their way out of Detroit.  Bummer. Bummer. In a deal that apparently has been “agreed upon," the Tigers will send Granderson to the Yankees and Jackson to the Diamondbacks. The current deal has the Tigers receiving Austin Jackson, Max Scherzer, Phil Coke, and Daniel Schlereth.  If this is true, the Tigers are receiving a pretty decent haul. Austin Jackson was ranked by Baseball America as the top prospect in the Yankees' organization prior to the 2009 season.  He will be 23 this ...

Curtis Granderson Acquired by Yankees from Tigers in Three-Team Deal

According to Jon Heyman, the deal is pretty much done. Last I heard, the Yankees are giving up No. 2 prospect Austin Jackson, lefty reliever Phil Coke, and Ian Kennedy for the All-Star center fielder.  The Arizona Diamondbacks will be giving up Max Scherzer and Daniel Schlereth in the deal and receive Ian Kennedy and Edwin Jackson in return. The Tigers will obtain Scherzer, Schlereth, Jackson, and Coke in the deal. Curtis Granderson had somewhat of a down year in 2009, posting a wOBA of .340 compared to his career mark of .358, but ...

New York Yankees’ Winter Meeting Talk

Brian Cashman is in Indianapolis for the winter meetings of major league baseball. And, as you may be able to tell from his hair in the picture above, he is again the center of the storm. The latest speculation is that the Yankees, Detroit, and Arizona are involved in discussions of a three-team deal that would bring centerfielder Curtis Granderson to New York. But in return, the Yankees would have to yield Ian Kennedy, Phil Coke, Austin Jackson, and another prospect. In all prior talks it was thought that young Jackson, the brightest ...

New York Yankees Get Curtis Granderson in Three-Team Deal

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Yankees have added all-star center fielder Curtis Granderson in a three-team trade involving the Detroit Tigers and Arizona Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks receive starting pitcher Edwin Jackson from Detroit and former first-round pick Ian Kennedy from the Yankees, while the Tigers claim left-handed reliever Phil Coke and outfield prospect Austin Jackson from New York and starter Max Scherzer and set-up man Daniel Schlereth from Arizona. Granderson had 30 HR and 71 RBI near the top of the order last season for Detroit, despite hitting just .249. The ...

Yankees, Tigers, Diamondbacks Possibly Working on Blockbuster Deal?

Today was the first day of the Winter Meetings held in Indianapolis. The Yankees were already making headlines from the meeting. First, they sent away inconsistent reliever Brian Bruney to the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later. Not the most shocking news as Bruney was hardly used in October and November. In Washington, he'll probably be used more. But the big news came during the night time, a possible three-way deal that could be in the works between the Yankees, Tigers and Diamondbacks. According to FOX Sport's Ken Rosenthal and Jon ...

Pettite’s Return, and What It Means

According to sources of ESPN's Buster Olney, Andy Pettitte will pitch in 2010, and his return is just a matter of working out a deal with the Yankees . His decision to return is major news for the Yankees, who are looking to make whatever moves possible that can get them to defend their World Championship.  Pettitte's return is huge, because he gives the Yankees durability and stability in the back end of the rotation.  He's also known for his knack of winning big games, as he had a great post-season ...

New York Yankees Trade Brian Bruney to Washington Nationals

The baseball winter meetings are underway and there is nothing to better help to kick off the meetings than a blockbuster trade. Well, not exactly. There was one trade today so far, but a blockbuster it is not. Today, the New York Yankees traded relief pitcher Brian Bruney to the Washington Nationals for a Player To Be Named Later. This is probably a good thing for Bruney’s career. Going to Washington is good for Bruney Bruney, who is 28, strikes me as a guy who can’t pitch in a big market. Every single time ...

Yankees Start Trimming the Fat: Brian Bruney Traded to Nationals

The Yankees, who are reportedly on a quest to reduce payroll this offseason, have traded right-handed reliever Brian Bruney to the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later. Bruney, who made $1.25 million this year, was due for salary arbitration and could've made around $2 million after putting up what appeared to be a good season. The 27-year-old's 5-0 record and 3.92 ERA look nice on paper, but Yankees fans know how much Bruney struggled at times this year following his return from injury. On Aug. 1, he had a 6.10 ...

Yankees Best 25 Man Roster For 2010

Some things are rock solid for the New York Yankees going into the 2010 season. To begin with they have the best infield in all of baseball both offensively and defensively. Mark Texeira - First Base.  Robinson Cano - Second Base.  Alex Rodriguez - Third Base. Derek Jeter - Shortstop.  No need for any changes there. Jorge Posada will back behind the plate but don't expect him to catch more than 100 games. He will DH a great deal more and they will give his aging legs a lot more rest. Francisco Cervelli will be ...
