MLB Spring Training 2012: Yankees Prospect Austin Romine out with Back Soreness

York Yankees catching prospect Austin Romine will miss a day of spring training, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Romine experienced some back soreness on Thursday during a workout session with pitchers and catchers in spring training. His soreness appears to be minimal, and he should be back training quickly.

He is on the Yankees' 40-man roster for spring training. Francisco Cervelli is the likely backup catcher for Russell Martin, assuming that he remains healthy.

Romine will most likely start 2012 playing with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and he could receive a call-up to the majors later in the season.

In 2010, Baseball America listed Romine as the Yankees' second-best prospect in their minor league system.
