Mariano Rivera Honored By Bud Selig Before World Series Game 2 at Fenway Park

class="ui-droppable">Mariano Rivera may have suited up for the last time, but Major League Baseball continues to find ways to honor the greatest closer ever.

Rivera was honored by MLB commissioner Bud Selig with the Historic Achievement Award prior to Game 2 of the World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.



The award is not given out every year and is given at the discretion of the commissioner. The first award was given to Sammy Sosa and Mark McGwire in 1998 for their part in the historic home run chase. Among the other awardees have been Tony Gwynn, Cal Ripken Jr., Roberto Clemente (posthumously) and Ichiro Suzuki.
