Should The Yankees Start CC Sabathia Or Pettitte in Game 6 of The ALCS?

Yesterday, I was debating with some people about who should be starting game 6: Sabathia or Pettitte. My thinking was, since CC is on regular rest, you have to pitch him. You can't worry about who will be available for the World Series until you actually get there. Their argument was, if it goes to a Game 7, you want CC pitching, and if it doesn't, you have him for Game 1 of the World Series. I definitely could see this line of reasoning, I just preferred to see the Yanks ...

Ian Kennedy Continues to Impress in Arizona Fall League

New York Yankees pitching prospect Ian Kennedy, limited to just four minor league starts in 2009 due to surgery to repair an aneurysm in his pitching arm, made his third start of the Arizona Fall League season on Saturday.   Pitching for the Surprise Rafters, Kennedy pitched four innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out five.   Kennedy’s been described as sort of a “Greg Maddux lite,” a four-pitch pitcher whose fastball, if he airs it out, is barely major league average (92). But with three other major league-caliber pitches ...

Yankees-Angels Postponed: Why CC Sabathia Should Start Game 6 on Sunday

Before Game 6 of the American League Championship Series was postponed just after 6 pm ET on Saturday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi had said that in the event of a rain out, scheduled starter Andy Pettitte would still start if the game was pushed back a day and CC Sabathia would start a possible Game 7 on Monday. While Pettitte is a veteran pitcher capable of closing out the ALCS for the Yanks, starting Sabathia on Sunday would be a better choice for two reasons. First, it would give New York a ...

Game Six of the ALCS Postponed

Game Six of the American League Championship Series was postponed to Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. due to rain. If necessary, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the New York Yankees will play Game 7 on Monday at 7:57 p.m. The weather wasn’t that bad in New York City today. When I went out to get lunch around two, it was about 60 degrees and overcast skies. But right now it’s drizzling and the weather is only supposed to get worse as the night goes on. Makes sense to cancel the ...

New York Yankees: Why They Need To Win The ALCS In Six

Playing at home is a bit like having the serve in tennis: It confers a distinct advantage. As between two evenly matched contestants, the one with the home field/serve will win most of the time. The Yankees "held serve" for two games at home, and then "broke the serve" of the Angels in the middle of three games played in Anaheim. It is this fact, and not the 3-2 tally, that suggests that the Yankees are the better team. (If Los Angeles was leading 3-2 by virtue of their homestand, it would ...

Relax, Yankees Fans. It’s Going to be Alright

Trust me, Yankees fans, it’s going to be fine. This is not 2004, this is not history repeating itself—or as Yogi Berra would say, “Déjà vu all over again.” There are so many differences between this team and the one that will forever be synonymous with being the only (probably first at some point) team to blow a 3-0 series lead, it is preposterous to think this team is going to or should fold because that one did.  To me the most obvious difference is in the starting pitching that the Yankees ...

Aroldis Chapman Could Be In Attendance at Yankee Stadium Today

The Aroldis Chapman sweepstakes have already begun. The Yankees, Mets, Rangers, Red Sox, and many other teams have already expressed their interest in the Cuban defector. Chapman has already arrived in the United States after being declared a free-agent and has started talks with Major League teams.  The Chapman Tour began about a week ago in New York. Chapman and his agent believed that it would be better if they came to the United States and negotiated, instead of the Major League clubs traveling to Andorra, Spain. Chapman became a resident ...

Why Nick Swisher is the Only New York Yankee I’ll Cheer For

Let me startout by stating that I cannot stand the New York Yankees for the life of me, but there is one player that I will cheer for to have success. That player is Nick Swisher because he's everything a major league player should be. Swisher will never be one of the higher paid baseball players, but he'll always be the one having the most fun. His personality and the way he treats fans is refreshing especially for an athlete. So, when Swisher came up with the bases loaded against Brian Fuentes ...

ALCS Game Five: The Angels Won’t Die (or…Shut Up, Tom! Stop Talking!)

Alex Rodriguez is having a career-altering postseason. Nick Swisher? Not so much. No matter whether he's hitting left-handed or right-handed, whether he's swinging at fastballs or breaking balls, whether the pitch is a foot outside or right over the middle of the plate and thigh high, he is the surest out in the Yankee lineup right now. Don't get me wrong—I love the guy. I love the energy he brings, and his goofy sense of humor, and his all-or-nothing approach at the plate...wait, no. Just the first two. When you're at ...

$200M Payroll + No World Series Title = Failed Season For Yankees

The 2009 New York Yankees came into the regular season with a lot of hope and promise. They splurged big time in their off-season by signing ace CC Sabathia, another ace in A.J. Burnett, and slugging first basemen Mark Teixeira. This was beginning to look like the most talented lineup and pitching staff that the Yankees have ever put out on the field. And, indeed it has been. New York has accomplished a lot this season with a plethora of talent. The pinstripers cruised through the regular season by winning over 100 ...
